Community Programs

At George Jay Elementary School we offer a wide variety of programs designed to enhance a child’s learning ability. We also provide resources for children and families in need of extra support.

Here are some of our programs:

Early Learning

STRONGSTART – A pre-school program for parents and kids. Free of charge 8:45-11:45, provided by the Ministry of Education.

BREAD PROGRAM – Provides free bread every Thursday morning. Bread is donated by Cob’s and is only possible through parent participation.

BREAKFAST  – A hot breakfast provided to George Jay students beginning at 8:20 am every morning in the Gym

FRUIT AND SNACK PROGRAM – Provides all students with a fruit or vegetable snack daily throughout the year.

GOOD FOOD BOX – Provides fresh fruit and veggies at a reasonable cost once a month. Check with the Fernwood Community Centre. https://fernwoodnrg.ca/fernwood-nrg-programs/food-security/good-food-box/

LUNCH PROGRAM – Provides lunch to students every day. Cost is based on what families can afford.

IN-SCHOOL MENTOR PROGRAM – Students are matched with mentors who are screened and orientated through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria. This is a very successful and beneficial program that offers a special one-to-one friendship with a volunteer mentor. This program is designed to help increase a student’s self esteem, resiliency, and healthy attitudes and connection to school.
